The first of many Best Teen Diets activities was the Best Teen Diets Contest. Girls ages 6-13 from The Kirkland Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of King and Pierce Counties and the Girl Scouts-Totem Council filled out entry forms creating their very own Best Teen Diets meal. Participants were encouraged to incorporate all five food groups in their recipes. A registered dietician then chose seven of the most qualified and inventive recipes as the winners, along with one grand prize winner.
The winners of the contest were invited to the Seattle Sheraton on Monday, December 23, where they prepared their signature dishes along side Chef Jay Sardeson. Prizes and awards were provided by the Dairy Farmers of Washington in cooperation with each organization and the Seattle Sheraton.
